Gujarat Vigilance Commission received 8,263 complaints in 2013

Gujarat Vigilance Commission, an independent statutory body, received as many as 8,263 complaints in 2013.

According to the 50th Annual Report of Gujarat Vigilance Commission (GVC), which was tabled in the Gujarat Assembly today, it recieved 8,263 complaints in 2013 and 7,592 in 2012.

GVC is given powers to investigate cases of bribery, corruption, irregularities, dereliction of duty and misuse of power by any public servant working in Gujarat, the report said.

Out of these 8,263 complaints, 3,510 have been disposed of, as majority of them had inadequate information or contained issues which are beyond the purview of the GVC. As per the rule, anonymous applications are also not considered by the GVC.

The Commission further stated that out of 8,263 applications of complaints, serious allegations have been made against public servants in 483.

After the primary investigation, all these applications have been forwarded to related departments, boards or corporations for further investigation and action, said the report.
