Gujarat: RSS to make efforts to solve Patel-OBC quota row

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has decided to make efforts to solve the ongoing quota agitation by Patel community demanding OBC status from the BJP-led Gujarat government in a meeting which was attended by CM Anandiben Patel.

"In RSS's Samanvay Baithak (co-ordination meeting) held here today, we have discussed the present situation (of agitation by the Patel community seeking reservation) of the state, where in members of the RSS expressed their concerns on this issue," RSS spokesperson Pradip Jain said.

"Swayamsevaks of Sangh (RSS) will make their efforts (in this issue) so that social harmony and integrity can be preserved," Jain said.

further said that Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel also attended the meeting of the RSS.

When asked what kind of efforts would be made by the RSS, Jain said that workers and other office bearers of the Sangh would meet community leaders leading agitations.

On a query whether RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat was there in the meeting, Jain said, "He was not there".

Patel community in the state have been agitating for the last one month seeking reservation under Other Backward Class (OBC).

The RSS meeting was crucial since it was held just only two days ahead of the Patel community's mega rally in the city where in around 25 lakh people are going to take part.
