Gujarat Congress on Thursday promised a safer Gujarat and said that it would immediately appoint a Lokayukta if it is voted to power in the upcoming elections.
Making the last of the 12-part series of poll announcements, Congress alleged that law and order situation in the state has deteriorated. “Crime against women and children has gone up during the tenure of BJP government. Congress will work out a comprehensive action plan to prevent such crimes and provide enhanced safety and security to citizens,” said party president Arjun Modhwadia, leader of opposition Shaktisinh Gohil and party’s election campaign in-charge Shankarsinh Vaghela.
They announced a series of steps for police welfare if the party is voted to power. “Police personnel are being exploited. They are being paid only fixed wages. The government has also stopped the practice of providing jobs on compassionate grounds. We will revive the practice. Kin of deceased employees would be offered a job or a fixed amount,” it said. The Opposition party promised immediate appointment of Lokayukta, a post that has been lying vacant for last eight years.
“The Congress will immediately appoint a Lokayukta and get investigated the corruption of more than Rs1 lakh crore perpetrated by the CM and ministers. The Lokyaukta Act will be made more transparent for a fair investigation in allegations against CM,” they said.
The party also alleged that RTI has been made ineffective in the state, and promised total transparency in administration.
“Adequate security will also be provided to the whistle blowers,” it announced, adding that accountability Act would be passed for providing as many as 105 services, including certificates related to land, revenue, death, birth, caste, among others, within a specific period.
