However, the BJP accused the Opposition of levelling 'false and baseless allegations to cover up its own corruption'.
Reiterating their demand for an investigation into the land allotments under Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat's Chief Minister, the Congress on Monday said that it was a clear case of impropriety, alleged corruption and a definite case of conflict of interest.
"There is a clear case of impropriety, clear case of alleged corruption and definite case of conflict of interest. The Prime Minister's silence over the matter has been deafening. He should clarify and the Supreme Court should take suo moto cognizance and have an independent investigation into the matter," Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told the media here.
Asserting that it was a fit case for a court monitored investigation, he added that certain new facts have emerged which make the charge of gross impropriety and conflict of interest more damning.
"Question which rises is who is this customization of policy benefiting? Who will benefit from violation of environment laws? Government land has been given away at throwaway price to private players," Tewari said.
The Congress had earlier demanded a Supreme Court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe in the matter following reports about the Modi-led Gujarat government's land deals with business associates of Anar Patel, the daughter of incumbent Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.

The revenue department is the nodal authority for such land allotments. She retained the revenue portfolio when she became the chief minister of the state.
Reports suggest a company run by business associates of Anandiben's daughter reportedly owns 400 acres, of which 250 acre was allotted to the company purportedly at an official rate of Rs. 15 per square metre.
