On Thursday, urban development minister Anandi Patel met real estate developers associations of different cities along with individual developers working on affordable housing projects for consultation as government is going to launch a policy for affordable housing soon.

Developers suggested administrative and revenue reforms for making housing affordable. “A salaried person with less than Rs16,000 monthly income could not afford a house in city, so the state government should make some provisions to make housing accessible to this segment”, said president of Gihed, Rushabh Patel.

Moreover, developers also demanded setting up of stamp duty for house resold within five years of buying. They also suggested that parking provisions should be changed in case of housing projects for lower income group (LIG) as they can’t afford car, said a leading city-based developer dealing in affordable housing sector.
