Chief Election Commissioner of India (CEC) AK Joti in a press conference in Ahmedabad confirmed that VVPATs will be used with EVMs in all voting booths in the upcoming Gujarat elections.

Several opposition parties have questioned the veracity of EVMs,. with some like Akhilesh Yadav and Mayawati even alleging that BJP is sweeping elections only due to its use. Thus the presence of VVPATs, which will essentially keep a paper trail of all votes polled is likely to reassure political parties. Even in the past Election Commission has used VVPATs, but they were used in select constituencies. Now in Gujarat, it will be used in all 50264 booths in 182 constituencies, said AK Joti. CEC also went on to say, "If a candidate thinks if the EVM malfunctioned, he can complain about it to the Returning Officer. The RO can refer to the slip by VVPAT Machines".

Gujarat polls will be held in two phases on December 9th and 14th. The counting of votes will be done on 18th December.

On Sunday, both BJP bigwigs Amit Shah and Narendra Modi campaigned in the state. Rahul Gandhi too addressed rallies where he asked five pointed questions to BJP.

In Mahuva, Amit Shah likened the Congress Party's demand for proof of the 2016 surgical strike with questioning the valour of the Indian army, and called on Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi to respect the army's honour He said, " Within ten days, the Indian Army went to Pakistan, took revenge and came back. Pakistan was left red-faced and Rahul Gandhi was demanding a proof. He asked who saw the surgical strikes taking place. Rahul Bhai, please respect the honour and valour of our jawans guarding the borders,"

PM Modi on the other hand, questioned the Congress for opposing projects just for the sake of opposing and he even took a jibe at Congress party's internal polls.
