Gujarat Elections 2017: 68.7% polling recorded in phase two, says EC

Voting is underway in the second and final phase of the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017. Over two crore voters are casting their ballots to seal the fate of 851 candidates contesting for 93 seats across 14 districts in Gujarat. The results of the polls in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state would be declared on December 18.

Voting is underway in the second and final phase of the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017. Over two crore voters are casting their ballots to seal the fate of 851 candidates contesting for 93 seats across 14 districts in Gujarat. The results of the polls in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state would be declared on December 18.

4:37 pm EC on malfunctioning EVMs

The Election Commission said that they received complaints regarding machines between 8 to 9 AM. 8 ballot units, 8 control units and 24 VVPATs had issues and were replaced by the technical team.

The areas form which machines were replaced were Sanand, Vejelpur , Elise bridge , Dariapur , Jamalpur , Maninagar , naranpura , Nikol , Naroda , Daskoi, Dholka and Dhandhuka.

Meanwhile, Bluetooth complaints were received from Ghatlodai and 48 from Dholka and teams were sent to the spot, but nothing was found.

Hanspura village near Visnagar in Mehsana - a group clash reported between two communities.

A crowd attacked over polling station in Jahapura village near Godhra.

Tower Bajar area in Anand also witnessed disturbances. Two groups clashed and stone pelting was reported. Vehicles were also damaged. 

2.45 pm: 47.40% turnout till 2 pm in Ahmedabad.

2.26 pm: Industrialist Gautami Adani cast his vote along with wife in Ahmedabad.


2.22 pm: Lowest turnout recorded in Ahmedabad district at 23.92% till 12 pm

12:19 am: PM Modi stands in queue at booth number 115 in Sabarmati's Ranip locality to cast his vote.

12:12 pm:  In Sabarmati, BJP's sitting MLA Arvind Patel is up against Congress' Jitubhai Patel. A long serpentine line can be seen outside the polling booth in Ranip, where PM Modi will cast his vote shortly

11:54 am: Keeping faith in democracy: DNA spotted these cute grandmoms, who came to vote during second phase polls. Revaba and Urvashiven Raval, both in their 80s, said that they have no one to rely on and so came together to vote 

11:46 am: In a first, District Collector's office in Ahmedabad has set up a control room with 441 CCTV cameras. It is for first time that CCTV cameras have been isntalled inside the sensitive booths and are been watched by surveillance by a team of 21 people. By analysing the last three elections, these 441 sensitive booths were listed and are monitored by the team

10:43 am: Known for his fiery speeches, young Patidaar leader Hardik Patel casts his vote in Viramgam

 

10:19 am: 'The EVM in Sankheda's Sodhaliya village in Chhota Udaipur was dysfunctional for 50 minutes, so voting was halted for that duration. We fixed the machine and now the voting is underway, polling officer Gaurang Rana quoted as saying to news agency ANI.
