Just two days before the Election Commission counts the votes cast in the Gujarat Assembly elections, the Congress had approached the Supreme Court praying that the poll body be directed to tally 25 per cent of all ballots in Gujarat with voter slips printed by the Voter-Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines.
After Congress candidate from Amraiwadi approached the district administration apprehending discrepancies during counting of votes at the LD Engineering college on Monday, Ahmedabad collector has decided to allow four Congress workers to remain present at the Polytechnic where CCTVs would monitor the counting process.
Congress's Arvindbhai Chauhan was pitched against BJP's Hasmukh Patel in Amraiwadi. He had approached the collector to allow them to remain present in the CCTV room at Polytechnic. The EVM's have been kept at LD Engineering college as it is one of the centres for counting.
Speaking about the same, Arvindbhai Chauhan, contesting from Amraiwadi, said, "We fear tampering and hence we just want to be extremely sure until the counting begins. This was the main reason that we met and requested the collector to allow our men accompany the monitoring team in the strong room. Thankfully, the permission has been given to four of our party workers who will now be present inside the strong room and monitor CCTV cameras 24x7."
Chauhan added, "We are also keeping a tab on which car enters the booth just to be sure from our side."

Congress had earlier accused the Election Commission of being biased toward the BJP raising questions over Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'doing a roadshow' after casting vote on Thursday.
BJP too had earlier objected to the airing of Rahul Gandhi's interview to private news channels before the second phase of elections.
