Ahead of the second phase of Gujarat assembly elections, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday continued his campaign trail and his visits to temples.

However, during one of his temple visits, Rahul Gandhi rather had an awkward moment when the crowd started chanting 'Modi Modi'. The soon-to-be Congress president was leaving Shree Rancchoji temple at Dakor in Kheda district when some individuals gathered outside the temple and started raising slogans in support of PM Modi. He is scheduled to visit another temple at Shamlaji Temple in Aravali district today.

The recent temple visits by Rahul Gandhi at the time of Gujarat elections has been in the midst of various public debates in political circles and social media. He has been criticised by BJP for his obvious and 'sham' temple visits.

Earlier during the day, BJP president Amit Shah slammed Rahul Gandhi for 'hopping from temple to temple' and spreading casteism in the country.

"Congress had laid the foundation of Gujarat election on casteism. The would-be President of Congress started hopping from temple to temple. Congress has been the creator of polarisation in India," Amit Shah

While Rahul Gandhi is campaigning in Aravali, Kheda, Banaskantha and will end his campaigning at Gandhinagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is addressing huge crowds in Palanpur, Sanand, Kalol and Vadodara.

Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi blamed Congress party for using age-old tactics and relying on their decade-long 'divide and rule politics'.

"BJP is fighting these elections on the issue of development. Congress is back to their old tricks. A generational shift has not brought in a new political culture for the party. They rely on their same divide and rule politics," PM Modi said in Kaalol.

Both BJP and Congress have come out all guns blazing at each other in their campaign trails with both blaming each other for their unfulfilled promises and calling names too. The first phase of polling for 89 seats was held on December 9 with 68% turnout and the second phase for remaining 93 seats is to be held on December 14. The counting of the Gujarat assembly election will be held on December 18.
