Gujarat cops let the fizz out of booze parties

More than 70 people were nabbed for consuming alcohol; liquor parties busted.

During their strict vigil on the night of December 31, city police arrested more than 70 people for either having a liquor party or roaming around in a drunken state. Those nabbed included college students, businessmen, well-known jewellers and homemakers.

Among these, 13 were arrested by Satellite police, two each by Sola, Naranpura and Chandkheda, seven by Gujarat University, three by Navrangpura, four by Anandnagar, eight by Maninagar, nine by Ramol and 12 each by Sarkhej and Vastrapur police.

Major raids included a raid by Sarkhej police on Rosewood Resort on SG Highway. Based on a tip-off, Sarkhej police raided the resort and caught five people having a liquor party inside a room. Seeing cops approaching the resort, the management put a ‘closed’ sign on the main gate.

However, the cops forcefully entered the premises and busted the party. Cops also booked a case against the resort for allowing a liquor party without permission.  Sarkhej police also raided a house in Gota and nabbed five people consuming liquor, including two women.     

In another high-profile raid, Vastrapur police raided a specially allotted room inside Treat Hotel near Rajpath club on SG Highway. Cops arrested 11 people having a liquor party and seized liquor, cars and other valuables worth Rs15.46 lakh from the spot. It is learnt that all of them are well-known jewellers of the city.
