Parties go all out to woo voters in 87 seats that go to poll on December 13.

The campaigning for first phase of state assembly elections, which will end on Tuesday, has entered the fast lane with political parties going all out to woo voters in the last few hours of campaigning.

Election Commission (EC) officials said that campaigning for 87 assembly constituencies that go to polls on December 13 will end at 5pm on Tuesday, 48 hours before the end of voting for the first phase. The voting for these seats will begin at 8am on Thursday and end at 5pm.

Dholka, Dhandhuka, Viramgam and Sanand seats in Ahmedabad are among the seats that are going to polls in the first phase. The other seats are in Saurashtra, South Gujarat and South Central Gujarat regions.

The election campaigning has reached its feverish peak as political parties and candidates make their final pitch in the last few hours of campaigning. Chief minister Narendra Modi, who has been addressing six to seven public meetings daily, addressed seven meetings on Monday. He is slated to address nine rallies on Tuesday.

However, five of these are in seats that go to polls in the second phase. The CM also addressed rallies at 53 places simultaneously using the 3D technology.

The Opposition Congress is also leaving no stone unturned for the big push in the final days of campaigning. Party president Sonia Gandhi campaigned at two places on Monday, the second time she was in the state in four days, while prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh campaigned in South Gujarat on Sunday.

Gandhi family scion Rahul Gandhi will address three public meetings on Tuesday, including one in Sanand. Senior BJP leader LK Advani is also slated to address election rallies at Sanand and two other places tomorrow.

BJP State VP Purushottam Rupala will address three public meetings in Saurashtra, while party leader and TV actor Smriti Irani will address two meetings and hold a road-show in Porbandar.

Cricketer-turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, actor Viveik Oberoi and Kanodia brothers among others will also campaign for the BJP at different places before curtains come down on campaigning for the first phase.
