The Madhya Pradesh government has been put in a fix after Guinness Book of World Records has asked them for videos of each of the 1.2 lakh plantation sites as proof  that 6 crore saplings were planted on a single day in 2017, The Times of India reported on Friday.

Bureaucrats have told the daily that the demand is not feasible.

On July 2, the state government planted 6.63 crore saplings on the banks of Narmada in 12 hours as part of its river conservation efforts — a feat they thought fit enough for a place in the Guinness Book. The drive had covered 24 districts and involved a whopping 15 lakh volunteers. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan — who was the driving force in the plantation — had remarked that it was the most important day of his life.

On July 2, the government in the court of 12 hours planted over 6 crore samplings. The current record of planting maximum saplings in least time - five crore in 24 hours - is held by Uttar Pradesh.

Over 6.63 crore saplings were planted in more than 1.17 lakh places spread in 24 districts from where the river transverse under a 12-hour-long drive, said a state Public Relations Department official.

At the time, representatives of Guinness World Records were present at different spots to monitor the drive, the official added.

The massive exercise was carried out between 7 am and 7 pm after Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched it by performing a puja and planting saplings at Amarkantak, from where Narmada originates, in Anuppur district.
