The Goa government would be asking the district collectors to take steps to dispose of unclaimed bodies lying in morgues.

"The health department will write to the collectors, directing them to ask concerned police stations to dispose of unclaimed bodies," Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said here.

Rane today inspected the state-run hospital at Margao in South Goa district.

"All nine units of the morgue (attached to the hospital) are full with unclaimed bodies sent by the police," he said.

The police sometimes don't apply to the district administration seeking permission to dispose of such bodies and therefore they lay in the morgue, he said.

The bodies which are not claimed by relatives or which are not identified are kept in state-run morgues attached to Goa Medical College and Hospital and the district hospital in Margao.
