Taking a dig at those advocating revocation of AFSPA, JKNPP leader said that those demanding revocation must first surrender their security cover.
Opposition CPI(M) today demanded that the Jammu and Kashmir government should bring a resolution on revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the state.
"If we are sincere-- government should bring resolution in the state Assembly on revocation of AFSPA (in the state)-- we will all support it and pass it", CPI(M) MLA and state secretary MY Tarigami told the Assembly over the debate on adjournment motion of PDP over the Baramulla firing incident.
"After passage of the resolution, we will recommend the revocation of AFSPA to the Parliament", he said, adding, "We do not want Army in J&K-- they are needed at the borders now".
Tarigami further said "central government in the Parliament had revealed that infiltration is down-- militancy has decrease-- if the situation has improved, should not there be decrease in the foot steps of security forces-- should it remain the same as it was in the peak of militancy in 1989-90".
Taking a dig at Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the CPI(M) leader said "he should pick up courage-- come out and award punishment to all those involved in crimes starting from 2010 summer unrest-- that would be the deterrent".
"Alas Chief Minister would have punished people involved in firing in 2010 summer unrest after thorough probe to book killers of youth-- he would have fixed accountability then", he said.
He also charged Army in Pathribal incident and said that prime investigating agency had indicted Army in alleged fake encounter case.
Countering the allegations, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) member Harshdev Singh said "if we blame everything on Army, it will be injustice-- there is army act apart from AFSPA-- you can try people under Army act and punish them".
Commending the role of Army in the state, Singh said "we are here because the Army had stamped out terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and brought normalcy and peace".
"The people who are sitting here were not daring to come out of their houses in 1989-90 because of the militancy and it was Army which had cleared militancy and we blame it", he added.

"When we say that situation has improved-- militancy is on down slide-- there is a need to surrender security cover and then ask for revocation of AFSPA-- you cannot enjoy the security at the time and demand Army withdrawal at the same time", Singh said.
