The Lok Sabha was adjourned sixth day in a row, owing to disruptions by opposition parties over issues like the PNB bank scam and demands of special status for Andhra Pradesh. The Finance Bill, which was listed for business for Tuesday, could not be taken up.

As the proceedings for Question Hour and Zero Hour began in the Lok Sabha, MPs from opposition parties including the Congress, TDP, TMC, TRS and AIADMK went up to the Well of the House with placards, forcing Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to adjourn the House till noon. At noon, when the proceedings began again, opposition MPs continued with the disruptions, leading to adjournment of the House for the day.

NDA MPs, however, signed the Finance Bill and passed it without discussion, which received an uproar from the Opposition. MPs from different political parties collectively signed a letter in protest and submitted to the Speaker.

"As far as Parliamentary practices are concerned, without deciding/ informing the date and time of the guillotine and passing of the Finance Bill to all Party Leaders, it is quite unusual to include it in the List of Business," the letter read. "This shows the government's arrogance and unilateral move to bulldoze all financial business without discussing them in the floor of the House."

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge accused the NDA of fuelling 'sponsored agitations'.

"Since the Session began, we have been submitting a notice for an adjournment motion on the issue of Nirav Modi and the bank scam. But the government is trying to overlook all efforts. This proves that they are trying to mislead the people by raking up other issues," said Kharge.

In reply, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar accused the Congress of 'anti-democratic' practices within the House. "We have made efforts to speak to all parties, including the Congress to let the House function. We have listed all important matters in the List of Business. It seems Sonia and Rahul Gandhi do not believe in democracy," said Kumar.
