If not hampered by legal hassles, the state is preparing to acquire the 15 acre plot of land at Bhav Nirzar, located in the heart of city’s prime locality in Satellite, within a week’s time. The average price of land located in this posh residential area is estimated Rs580 crores. However, sources in the Swadhyay Parivar have claimed that land is being used for the purpose for which it was taken on lease.

Sources in the Ahmedabad Collector’s office have indicated that most of the procedures for re-acquiring the land from the Swadhyay Parivar’s trust have been completed. “The trust has approached the court, but from our side all preparations have been done. If we do not encounter any legal hassles, we will be able to re-acquire the land in a week.”

The land is on the prime location and its current value can be estimated at around Rs80,000 per square yard, said sources in the real estate market. Going by the market estimate, the total land could be priced at whopping Rs580.80 crore. As the land parcel is located in the developed area surrounded by residential schemes, it can be an ideal location for development activities, sources added.

When DNA spoke to leading devotees of Swaydhyay Parivar, they said that they were not in a position comment on the issue as the matter is sub-judice and they will respect the court’s decision. But sources close to Swadhyay Parivar said, “Twenty-three acres of land is possessed by Swadhayay Parivar under two different trusts - the Tatvagyan Vidyapith and other Gyan Vistarak Sangh. But there is no sub-plotting of the land and no details are available on the 15 acres piece of land, which the state government is demanding.”

However, Parivar sources said, “The state government, through collector’s office, has said that the land is no more useful for agriculture for which it was given on lease. Around 120 students of Cultural-Agricultural University run by Swadhyay Pariwar are given education of agriculture on this plot of land. Every inch is being utilised for the purpose, for which it was taken on lease,” it said.
