Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad today said the NDA Government should have worked at the ground level and been stricter with Pakistan with regard to the continuous ceasefire violations from across the border. He told ANI, "BJP is not being able to tackle this and they are very weak when it comes to this issue. Most number of ceasefire violations is taking place in BJPs regime. So much of heavy weaponry is being used. The present NDA government should have been stricter in dealing with the situation".

"It is our bad luck that Pakistan has been continuously violating the ceasefire pact for the past two months. This has never happened before. This is for the past time that they have resorted to using heavy arms and weapons. So many people died, so much property lost," he added. Azad also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of polarising voters ahead of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that the saffron party was trying to "superimpose the RSS agenda" in the troubled border state.

Normal life in the border areas of the state has been totally disrupted in the past two months. People are migrating to safer areas for fear of shelling. Children are unable to attend regular school. Lack of basic amenities like sanitation in the migrated areas is also a constant cause of worry for these people.
