The BJP on Tuesday accused the central government of failing to check terrorism and said morale of terrorists was going up.

Referring to Monday's militant attack in Srinagar in which eight soldiers were killed, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh said the government repeatedly promises to fight terrorism but does not deliver on its promise.

"The morale of terrorists is going up," Singh said.

He said the government was not tough on terrorism and added that the BJP would back the government in combating terror.

"We request that the government take effective measures to free this country of threats to internal security, whether it is terrorism or Maoist violence," Singh said.

BJP leader Jaswant Singh said the attack by militants ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Jammu and Kashmir was a matter of concern.

Suspected Hizbul Mujahideen militants had Monday killed eight soldiers in an attack on an army convoy in Srinagar.
