Ahead of Prime Minster Narendra Modi's live interaction with millions of students and teachers across the nation on Teachers' Day, CPI (M) politburo member Brinda Karat on Friday accused the NDA government at the Centre of politicizing the occasion.

Extending her greeting on the occasion, Karat said that the teachers are giving constitutional values to the students.

"This is not the day of Prime Minister but of teachers. They are converting it into a political day as they have made it mandatory to listen to his speech. PM has a lot of occasions to interact with people, it is wrong that they have chosen this day. They are politicizing it", she added.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to address students across the country on the occasion of Teachers' Day today.

Accordingly, all the schools have been instructed to make proper arrangements of LCD and televisions for the live speech by Prime Minister Modi.

Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani has said that the attendance of students in their respective schools would be 'completely voluntary' but the exercise has kicked up a controversy with many political parties questioning the move.
