The formation of government in Jammu and Kashmir has hit a roadblock as separatist leaders and chief of militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen are opposing any alliance with saffron Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for forming government in the Muslim-majority state.

Hizbul Mujahideen chief commander Salah-ud-Din, who is wanted by India and is based in Muzaffarabad capital of Pakistan controlled Kashmir (Pok), said in a statement to Srinagar-based news agencies today that government in J&K with the help of BJP will prove fatal for the Kashmiri people.

Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s People's Democratic Party (PDP), which emerged as single largest party in the state with 28 seats, is engaged in informal talks with BJP for forming a coalition government in the State.

Without making any direct reference to PDP, Hizbul chief said BJP-led government will put dignity of Kashmiri people at stake and leave no stone unturned in looting the resources of Jammu and Kashmir. “The ugly face of the government will be visible when it will be formed with the support of BJP.”

Referring to BJP-led government in centre, he said, “Modi Government neither helped the flood victims of Kashmir nor allowed international community to help them. This attitude of Modi Government exposed its anti-Muslim and anti-Kashmir policy”.

The separatist leaders too have been trying to influence the PDP and National Conference (NC) not to go for alliance with BJP.

The hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani had reminded PDP and NC of 2002 Gujarat riots, saying “Modi was the chief minister of the State when over 3000 Muslims were killed. The claims of BJP to develop Jammu and Kashmir are ‘farce’,” he said adding BJP and RSS were two sides of the same coin.

Earlier, in last week of December, senior separatist leader, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat met PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at his residence in Srinagar and is said that he discussed the government formation in the State.

There have been unconfirmed reports that some newly elected PDP legislators had received threat calls over party’s alliance talks with BJP for government formation.

However, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, K Rajendra said no legislator has lodged any complaint to police about receiving threat calls.
