Government committed to safety nets for labourers, says West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said that her government was committed to ensuring different safety nets for labour force.

"If any labourer dies in accident, we have instituted ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the survivor family. We have started pension scheme for masons. We are bringing unorganised sector under the scheme", Banerjee said speaking at a meeting after inaugurating several state government welfare projects.

Stating that people of industrial belts do not have to go to Kolkata to solve labour problems anymore, she said the foundation stone for a Labour Bhavan has been laid at Asansol and Rs 8 crore had been allocated for it".

"We are setting up a multi super specialty hospital in Asansol. 40 such hospitals are coming up in Bengal", she said. She also appealed to the industries in setting up units in the region.
The greenfield private airport at Andal in Burdwan district would begin operations soon, Banerjee added.
