The coordination committee demanding a separate Gorkhaland on Tuesday decided to launch an indefinite hunger strike from July 15, while continuing with the shutdown in Darjeeling hills.

July 15 marks a month of the movement. Leaders of all political parties, including that of BJP and Hill Congress, would participate in the hunger strike.

The four-hour-long meeting also decided to demand a CBI inquiry into the death of seven GJM workers in alleged police firing. It also decided to observe July 13 as Gorkha Jaati Ekta Divas.

In another decision, an ultimatum was given to the chairpersons of 15 developmental boards at the hills to put in their papers by 6 pm on Friday. These developmental boards had been set up by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in 2013 for the development of tribes such as Lepcha, Tamang etc. Many members of the boards have already stepped down in the past 10 days.

Committee members have decided to return all awards given by West Bengal government and to gherao DM and SD offices to protest blockade of ferrying of essential commodities.

"We will write to the President of the country, Governors of West Bengal and Sikkim, BJP MP SS Ahluwalia and Sikkim MP PD Rai to raise the issue in the Parliament in the monsoon session," said Neeraj Zimba, GNLF spokesperson.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at a public meeting at East Midnapore on Tuesday, blamed the BJP for the flare up at the hills. "Just like the pilgrims at Amarnath, who are facing misery for these BJP leaders, disturbances at Darjeeling are also the handiwork of these leaders. We will not let Darjeeling burn. We will restore peace there and will never bow down to the ill-intended schemes of the Centre. I urge them not to play with fire.

We don't want any violence. We want peace to prevail," she said.
