The defeat in Lok Sabha bypolls on two prestigious seats has short-circuited the Yogi Adityanath government’s gala celebrations of completing one year in office.

Instead of holding grand functions as planned before by-poll results, Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government has directed celebrations on a low-key affair on Monday after the shocking results.

The party is still in a state of shock losing Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats vacated by the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya at the hands of the BSP supported Samajwadi Party.

Though BJP President Amit Shah has given a clean chit to Yogi Adityanath and lauded his government’s development works and speedy execution of Central schemes, the Chief Minister seems to be in no mood for big celebrations after the defeat.

Earlier, the party had planned to organize a massive function at sprawling Smriti Upvan in Lucknow to celebrate one year in office but it has now decided to hold a function at smaller Lok Bhawan just to complete the formality.

The BJP had planned to invite Amit Shah, several Union ministers, incuding Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari, Smriti Irani etc and about half a dozen Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled states but after the crushing defeat on Marcy 14, the party had put on hold all invitations.

Now, the Governor Ram Naik will be the Chief Guest at a function organized at Lok Bhawan. The day would be celebrated with a pinch of salt as “Ek Saal Bemisaal” (One unprecedented Year).

“Unlike previous regimes, there is no doubt that the Yogi Adityanath government has many things to its credit in one year’s time but the humiliating defeat on the two prestigious Lok Sabha seats in by-poll has come as referendum on our achievements and development work in one year. In such a situation, it is imperative for the government and the party to lie low for the time being,” candidly admitted a party state functionary.

During the program, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will dwell at length about his government’s achievements and spell out its plan and targets for the next one year. The BJP State President Dr Mahendra Nath Singh will also unveil organisation’s plan to take the government’s policies and programs to people across state.
