Chief minister Vasundhara Raje who has been going about undoing the ‘many wrongs’ dotting her predecessor’s tenure with a missionary zeal took another step, this time towards correcting the equation with bureaucracy, by appointing Krishna Kunal as the new Jaipur collector.
Kunal, who was the Bharatpur Collector when the riots in Gopalgarh shook the foundations of Ashok Gehlot government, was then suspended and later asked to Await Posting Orders.
No sooner did the two-day ‘Collector-SP’ conference came to an end, the state government reshuffled 8 IAS officers. Jaipur collector T Ravikanth makes a surprise entry into the Chief Minister’s Office as secretary to Vasundhara Raje. But, it was Kunal’s reinstatement in the mainframe of state’s law and order machinery as Jaipur collector that got the tongues wagging in the corridors of power.
Kunal who cooled his heels for almost 2 years without any posting after the communal violence in Gopalgarh was later relegated as the settlement commissioner. Moments after the conclusion of the conference with bureaucrats and police officers, his name featured on the list of transferred IAS officers, this time as collector of Jaipur.
Serving district collector T Ravikanth is now secretary (II) to the chief minister Vasundhara Raje. Meanwhile, Bharatpur collector Niraj K Pawan has been shifted to the health department as additional mission director (NHRM).
Kunal joins his colleague, the then Bharatpur SP Hinglajdan who also got a dressing down from the Gehlot government, in jumping onto a comeback vehicle. Hinglajdan was recently appointed DCP in Jodhpur two days back by the government.
The previous government did not prefer giving him important portfolio in last two years.
The latest reshuffling conveys many messages as much to the comfort of her partymen as for the babus working with her. By getting T Ravikant in her coterie of officers, Raje has delivered as an impartial statesman for selecting officers for plum posts on the merit. A 98-batch officer, Ravikant known for administrative reforms in various capacities, had conducted free and fair assembly elections in Jaipur which saw the BJP sweeping the polls in the district. He had fined BJP leader and current MLA Ashok Parnami for paid news, but Raje picked him on administrative virtues. The transfer of Bharatpur collector Pawan to NRHM was expected because of his appointments on plum posts in the last government.
Current special secretary (planning) Giriraj Singh Kushwah will replace him. As per the order, Nagaur collector Vikas Sitaramji Bhale is now director, secondary education. He exchanges the post with Veena Pradhan. Meanwhile, Bhilwara collector Onkar Singh has been shifted as special secretary (NRHM). He would be replaced by Dr Ravi Kumar Surpur, currently posted as additional director (NRHM).
