Google on Friday marked the festival of Holi with a colourful doodle. Today's Google Doodle bring out the colourfulness that is associated with the festival.

In its Holi doodle, Googles's traditional logo was replaced with characters in blue, red, yellow and green celebrating Holi.

"It’s time for Holi — the age-old festive ritual marking the end of winter, the coming of spring, and symbolically, the triumph of good over evil. Family and friends come together to feast, dance, and laugh together while dousing each other with colored powder and water," Google said in a blog.

"Red, yellow, blue, and green are a few of our favourite colours all year round, but today we’re putting them front and center for an extra special reason," it said.

The four main powder colours carry with them a piece of symbolism with each signifying a different meaning.

Red stands for love and fertility and yellow is the color of turmeric, which is used as an anti-septic. Blue represents Hindu god Krishna and green symbolises spring and new beginnings.

The Holi doodle has been designed by Amrita Marino.

The doodle depicts dhol players amongst a cloud of colour on the occasion of Holi.

While 5 characters are carrying colours, one is beating a drum on which others are dancing. One of the six characters carry traditional 'gulaal,' other carries colour in a 'pichkaari' and one is carrying a bucket full of colurful water, with all dancing to the tune of drums.

These traditional drummers move from house to house, adding a peppy, musical touch to the day's festivities.

Whether you choose one favourite colour or many, here’s wishing everyone a happy Holi!

As per Hindu mythology, Holi is a celebration of the victory of good over evil.

President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted fellow citizens on the occasion of Holi.
