A Youth Congress activist suffered burn injuries during a protest against the state tourism minister Dilip Parulekar here this evening.

Varad Mardolkarm, general secretary of state unit of Youth Congress, suffered injuries when protesters were setting Parulekar's effigy on fire after pouring petrol on it outside the Congress House here.

The protest was cut short after the incident. "Varad got in contact with flames accidentally," said Goa Congress spokesman Sunil Kawathankar.

He was rushed to Goa Medical College hospital for treatment.

The Youth Congress was protesting Parulekar's recent controversial remark where he described a gang-rape accused as `naadan' (naive/idiot) and termed the crime as an isolated incident.
