Goa's Leon clinches gold in team chess

Goa's Candidate Master Leon Luke Mendonca has won a gold medal as part of the Indian team for topping the World Schools Team Chess Championship in Sochi, Russia. The tournament was held between June 2-9.

Leon (Fide Rating: 2174) has remained undefeated in all the nine rounds played in the Classical format. His team-mate Gukesh D also remained undefeated, Pranav V and Rakshitta R lost two matches. Leon will now travel to Voronezh to participate in the 'Alekhine Memorial Grand Masters Open Chess Championship, according to the Goa Chess Association press release.
