With Goa receiving good monsoon rains, reservoirs in the state are filling up fast and are expected to achieve full capacity by this month-end itself, a minister said today.

"Dam levels in the state have gone up to almost 80 per cent of the capacity and farmers will not face water shortage for irrigation purpose (in the near future)," Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar told reporters here.

He released data of all the five major reservoirs in Goa, including Selaulim dam, which supplies drinking water to almost 80 per cent of the state.

"Dams are getting filled up fast and are on the verge of getting fully filled by the month-end," the minister said.

As per the data, water level in Selaulim dam, located in South Goa and having a height of 41.15 metres, has touched a mark of 40.24 metres.

Anjunem dam, located on the foothill of Sahyadri in Sattari taluka and having a height of 93.2 metres, has been filled up to 87.62 metres.

Amthane dam, which has 50.25 metres height, has touched a mark of 49.45 metres. Panchawadi dam in South Goa has a height of 26 metres and is almost full with water touching 25.84 metres level.

Chapoli dam in North Goa has a height of 38.75 metres and it has touched a level of 25.84 metres.

Palyekar said the government is pushing for rainwater harvesting during the monsoon to recharge the water table.

The southwest monsoon arrived in the coastal state in early June 8.
