Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will travel to United States of America (USA) tonight for medical treatment.

Personal Secretary (PS) to Chief Minister Parrikar Rupesh Kamat said, "As advised by the doctors at Lilavati hospital in Mumbai, the Chief Minister leaving tonight to USA for further treatment."

Yesterday, Parrikar had informed that he might travel abroad for curing his medical ailment.

In a video message, Parrikar stated that he would travel abroad, depending on the advice given to him by the doctors here, and also thanked the natives of his state for their well wishes at his time of recovery.

Before heading to Mumbai, Parrikar yesterday called a meeting with Chief Secretary, Dharmendra Sharma and Principal Secretary to CM P. Krishnamurthy and formed a cabinet advisory committee to take administrative decisions in his absence.

Earlier, he was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on February 15 when he complained of stomach ache.

He was discharged on February 22, and on the same day attended the session of the Goa Legislative Assembly where presented the state's Budget and made a brief speech.

The session was truncated to four days owing to Parrikar's illness.

"With all humility, with support, prayers and well-wishes of not only the honourable members of this house, but lakhs of my Goan brothers and sisters, including leaders of various communities, religions, I stand before you in this august house with renewed strength and confidence to present the annual financial statement for 2018-19," Parrikar said, before presenting the budget.

"Sir, my health status has prevented me from preparing a detailed budget speech outlining policies and achievements and new schemes...," he said, adding this year would be the "year of employment."

Earlier, a senior BJP leader said if need be, they would also involve specialists from abroad to treat Parrikar.

In the 2017 Goa Assembly elections, the BJP could get just 13 legislators elected as against the Congress's 17. However, it came to power with support from smaller parties like the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Goa Forward, (three MLAs each) and three Independents, who supported it on condition that Parrikar—the then defence minister—return as the chief minister.
