This hair stylist is a hit in Nashik these days; for the poster put up in front of his salon on Gangapur road – Nanda Gent's Parlour – offers one free hair cut, colouring, facial etc. But there is a catch: you have to rope in people to join his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) .

Now, with Narendra Modi's party pipping the Communist Party of China to become the largest party in the world, Rajendra Korde can definitely take pride in contributing his might to the membership drive.

An ardent BJP worker, Rajendra even chose party's state leader Raosaheb Danave's birthday to launch the offer. "I launched it on March 18 as a mark of respect for Danave Saheb," said Rajendra, who is also the vice-president of BJP central Nashik branch.

The scheme offers a free haircut for a person enrolling five members, face massage in the case of those admitting 10, a branded hair colouring for those enlisting 50 members and a free gold glow facial for enrolling 100 members.

"The response was huge," says Rajendra, stating that he has no personal motives attached to the drive. "I have not done this to increase my clientele. By God's grace I have a thriving business. I always felt I should be contributing to the party whatever I can in my own ways; so merged my two passions, one the party work and the other my beauty care profession," he states.

Working for the party since 1990, Rajendra has a social bend of mind. Whenever possible, he goes to the remand home or the orphanage to give the kids there a free hair cut. He also goes to the tribal areas to serve the people in the remote places. On the birth anniversary of BJP leader the late Gopinath Mundhe, Rajendra used to be at the remand home, rendering free service to the children there. "I was appreciated by Mundhe saheb and I am happy about it," he said.

Taking inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah, Rajendra says, "If they can make eight crore people follow the party, as a worker I should try my bit."

Rajendra is not aware if his party leaders are even aware of his effort. "I don't think even Danave Sahib knows about this scheme which I launched on the occasion of his birthday. But the local BJP leaders encouraged me to go ahead," he says.

Asked if he expects the party to recognise him for his efforts, Rajendra said, "Not at all. What I am doing is just my humble contribution to the party."

Rajendra's family is happy that he is involved in some cause. "My wife is also eager to help others and wants me to take up such social work," he said.

Till March 31 evening, Rajendra had enrolled 370 members. He has extended the scheme by a day and more to take the tally to 400.
