Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education declared the class 12 results on Thursday morning.

Among 10.9 lakh fresh candidates 79.95% have managed to clear the exam while repeaters who were nearly 1.08 lakh, only 29.47% have managed to pass it in second attempt. Overall 11.93 lakh candidates who appeared in the exam March this year, 76.6% have passed.

Pass percentage of Mumbai division, which includes Thane and Raigad as well, is 79.95%. Newly created Kokan division which includes Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri has topped among nine divisions with 85.88%. It was the first HSC result for the division.

Girls outshined the boys yet again. While only 76.62% boys passed HSC exam, more than 84.06% girls did so.

The board officials especially mentioned the pass percentage in Physics, which hounded Science stream students throughout the exams due to various rumours. “More than 89.54% students have passed the exam. It is 4.5% high as compared to 2012,” says Lakshimikant Pande, Chairman of the Mumbai division.  Result of 68 candidates has been withheld due to various reasons which includes choice of wrong subject, non submission of migration and eligibility certificates.

For the first time, students who have passed but wish to improve their marks can do so twice in October 2013 and March 2014 under provisions of the Class Improvement Scheme. The student will have the choice to select the best score of the three attempts.

Forms for the application of photocopy of answer sheet will be available at the State board office in Vashi up to June 17. Students who wish to apply for revaluation must do so within five days of receiving the photocopy along with a photocopy of their original mark sheet.
