BJP leader Brijpal Tevatia critical after being shot at; police say AK-47, rifles used in attack

More than 100 rounds was fired by criminals at Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Brijpal Tevatia's car on Thursday which left Tevatia and his guard injured. The two have been taken to Fortis hospital in Ghaziabad.

Police sources told ANI that large amounts of ammunition including an AK-47 and two 9mm pistols were recovered from the attack spot.

Minister of State (MoS) and BJP leader Mahesh Sharma rushed to the hospital to meet the injured leader. Sharma said that Brijpal's life is in danger.

"Doctors are saying that they are trying to save his life. It's a matter of investigation, police will look into it. Brijpal's life is in danger. He has been taken to operation theater, doctors are trying to save him," Sharma said. 

ADG Law and Order, Daljeet Chaudhary said that the weapons used to attack Tevatia have been recovered. 

"We are trying to arrest the culprits. Weapons used in the attack have been recovered. Rifles, AK 47 have been used in the attack, we will soon probe the case. 

As per information, the BJP leader was accompanied by 20 private gunners, in spite of that the assailants attacked his convoy. Tevatia is said to be a confidante of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who has purportedly inquired about the incident from officials of the U.P. Police. 

Tevatia is a BJP MP from Muradnagar in Ghaziabad.
