The Centre on Monday assured the Supreme Court that no student would suffer following the decision to replace German as the third language with Sanskrit in Kendriya Vidyalayas. The apex court has adjourned this matter till December 16.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had asked the Human Resource Development Ministry to consider continuing German for the current academic session following which the Centre had conceded that no exam would be conducted for the subject in the current session.

A petition had been filed against the government's decision to drop German as an alternative to Sanskrit as the third language.

The Centre had submitted before the apex court that Sanskrit would be the third language in Classes 6 to 8 in the Kendriya Vidyalayas.
