Brushing aside all reports that Geeta, who returned from Pakistan, was married with children, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday said that the news was false as she had denied the same. "She denied all charges immediately. She said that when she went to Pakistan, she was just a little girl so there was no chance that she could have been married," Swaraj told the media.

According to Geeta's interpreter, she often felt sad when she was living in Pakistan and showed the eagerness to return to her homeland. "I"ve been told that when Geeta was in Pakistan, sometimes she would often fight because she was so upset. But she has been smiling ever since she has come home and that indicates how she really feels at the moment," Swaraj added.

DNA test conducted

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has deputed two doctors to collect the DNA samples of 23-year-old Geeta, who has returned to India from Karachi almost after 15 years, to determine her parentage and the results will be known "after 15-20 days".

"We have deputed two doctors to collect the DNA samples of Geeta from the hotel where she is staying. These samples will be sent to the AIIMS Forensic lab and Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for carrying out necessary tests to determine her parentage," said Dr Sudhir Gupta, Head of AIIMS Forensics Division. Gupta said that they have already collected the samples of the family which claimed Geeta as its own on October 24 after the Ministry of External Affairs wrote to the hospital.

The Ministry had asked it to collect samples for DNA test to confirm if Janardhan Mahato, who claims that Geeta is his first born Heera, is indeed her father.
"We have already collected the samples from her reported parents after we received a letter from the Foreign Ministry to assist in her DNA test," said Gupta adding that the samples have been sent to AIIMS Forensic lab and CBI's Forensic lab.

"We are fast tracking this test and the results will be out in 15-20 days," he added.

Geeta, a deaf-mute girl, travelled from Karachi to Delhi this morning, nearly 15 years after she accidentally crossed over to Pakistan as a child. She is accompanied from Karachi by the Edhi family, who run a charitable foundation and looked after her all these years. Geeta will soon meet Janardhan Mahato from Bihar, who she earlier this month had identified as her father from one of the many photographs sent to her by the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
