Even as the tainted SP leader and former UP minister Gayatri Prajapati, wanted in cases of alleged gang-rape and attempt to rape of a woman and her daughter, remains absconding, family members of the victims on Friday complained of having received threats.

In a written complaint to the Delhi Police, the family members alleged that senior officials of UP police including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Amita Singh had reached the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where the victims are undergoing treatment and asked them to withdraw their statements.

The complaint handed over to the Station House Officer of Hauz Khas police station states that Amita Singh was forcefully trying to snatch one of the victim's cell phone. "Singh told me that you are trying to mess up with the DGP of UP police. We will implicate you in a false case and stage your encounter," said the victim's brother. The complaint also stated that the women police officers pushed the victim and asked her mother to record her statement. "They even tried to put words in my sister's mouth," added the brother.

Meanwhile, UP Police have initiated the process for a lookout notice to be issued against Prajapati and six of his associates. Senior UP police officials are also in touch with the immigration authorities and the Home Ministry. Sources reveal that there are chances that he might fly out of the National Capital and hence authorities at the Delhi airport have been asked to keep a strict vigil.

In a statement issued by the Delhi police they stated that a PCR call was received in afternoon of March 2, 2017 regarding "alleged threat by UP Police official in Psychiatry Ward of AIIMS". On further information it was learnt that a Dy SP from UP Police had visited AIIMS for recording the statement of a minor prosecutrix admitted in Ward C-1 of AIIMS in a case of alleged sexual assault registered on the directions of Apex Court. This call was filed as no evidence of any threat or intimidation could be found as alleged in the call.

Later the victim's brother visited Hauz Khas police station and filed a written complaint alleging therein that while he had come to visit his sister, who happens to be the mother of the minor prosecutrix, he saw that the alleged DySP had snatched the cell phone of his sister and had threatened her. The complainant had also requested for protection from UP Police and to take necessary action against the alleged Police personnel. Enquiry initiated in this complaint revealed that the investigating officers of UP Police had sought due permission from AIIMS authorities to examine the minor prosecutrix. "However, since the mother had certain reservations, she had called over Sri Mahmood Pracha, Advocate, who is representing the minor prosecutrix before the Hon'ble Apex Court. Soon, Sri Pracha had also arrived at AIIMS and the remaining statement was carried out in his presence. The allegations leveled in the complaint of the the victim's brother have prima facie not been found substantiated as of now" said Additional DCP, South, Chinmoy Biswas.

Speaking to DNA the brother of the victim revealed that his sister and her daughter were confined to a room for hours. "Police officials in uniform and muftis (civil dress) were present. We ran to save our lives and called the Delhi Police. They arrived half and hour later and took our statement," he added. The family members of the kin want a fair enquiry to be conducted in the case and demand . The UP police have launched a manhunt for the Minister and his associates following Supreme Court's order.

The statement of the complainant was recorded before a Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Lucknow last week. The issue was also raised by the BJP president Amit Shah, who accused Akhilesh Yadav of hiding Prajapati at his residence"Can Akhilesh take a pledge in the name of the mother Ganga that Gayatri has not been kept at the CM's residence...if the Chief Minister really wants, Prajapati can be caught in 10 minutes," he said. The BJP leader alleged that Akhilesh had become a patron of big criminals in the state, adding that CM house should not be allowed to become a "haven for criminals".Senior BJP leader Vijay Bahadur Pathak also charged the Chief Minister for campaigning for the gang-rape accused and describing him as a capable leader before people. Besides, another minister Azam Khan had described the rape case as a conspiracy, he said.
