The BCCI has announced the squads for India's tours of Bangladesh and England. India play 3 ODIs in Bangladesh next month, and 5 Tests in England later this year.
Left-handed batsman Gautam Gambhir has made a comeback to the Test squad for England.
For the Bangladesh ODI series, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli have been rested. Suresh Raina will lead the team in their absence. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Shami Ahmed have also been rested. The squad for the Bangladesh tour is:
Suresh Raina (captain), Robin Uthappa, Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ambati Rayudu, Manoj Tiwary, Kedar Jadhav, Wriddhiman Saha (wicketkeeper), Parvez Rasool, Akshar Patel, R Vinay Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Stuart Binny, Mohit Sharma, Amit Mishra
This is a very new-look team. The only thinking behind resting so many players could be that the selectors wish to groom players for the future.
Meanwhile Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni (captain and wicketkeeper), Gautam Gambhir, Ishant Sharma, Varun Aaron, Ajinkya Rahane, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Shami, Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin have all been included in the Test squad for England.
Besides these players, wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, bowler Pankaj Singh, fast bowler Ishwar Pandey and all-rounder Stuart Binny also get a chance.
Significantly, Virender Sehwag has not been included either in the ODI team to Bangladesh or the Test team to England. Zaheer Khan also does not find a spot in either squad.
The Bangladesh ODI series will be conducted from June 15 to June 19, with India playing 3 ODIs. India will travel to England later that month, playing two warm-up games before taking on England in the first test from July 9.
