Exactly nine months after the brazen murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh right outside her Bengaluru house, the chilling confession of the main accused KT Naveen Kumar has come out in public domain.

In a report by Mumbai Mirror, Kumar’s 12-page-long confession shows the meticulous planning and the deep-rooted hatred for the scribe.

‘Praveen said his boys were ready to finish her and I had to arrange for the bullets. She had to be eliminated as she was against the Hindu religion and gods, he told me. I knew it was against the law, but I decided to help him,’ Kumar’s reportedly told the Special Investigation Team probing the murder.

The SIT has submitted the confession as part of the chargesheet in the case.

Earlier, the SIT had tried for a narco test on the prime accused to ferret out information about others involved in the crime. However, he had refused to undergo the test.

The accused (KT Naveen Kumar alias Hotte Manja) had been denying his role in the murder.

On March 9, the SIT had said it arrested alleged gunrunner KT Naveen Kumar, who was taken into police custody on March 2 for interrogation in connection with the case.

Kumar's family has maintained that he was innocent and in no way connected to the case.

The state government, which constituted the SIT headed by Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) B K Singh, had announced Rs 10 lakh reward for anyone giving clues about the perpetrators of the crime.

The 55-year-old Lankesh, known as an anti-establishment voice with strident anti-right wing views, was shot dead at close range by unknown assailants at her home here on September 5 last year.

Later, the government formed the SIT. The killing of the journalist had drawn widespread condemnation and the Siddaramaiah government had come under flak for not making any headway in nabbing the culprits.
