Gang rape case: Court files charges against former UP minister Gayatri Prajapati and six others

 Special POCSO Court on Saturday framed gang-rape charges against SP leader and former UP cabinet minister Gayatri Prajapati and six of his associates.

Along with Prajapati, charges were framed against his gunner Chandrapal, Rupeshwar, Ashok Tiwari, Vikash Varma, Amarendra Singh and Ashish Shukla. All seven are accused of repeatedly raping a woman for over two years for getting her a job. The woman had accused them of sexually harassing her daughter too. Gayatri was also accused of blackmailing the woman by taking her intimate pictures.

Despite police complaint no case was lodged against the influential ministers and his associates till the Supreme Court directed the police to lodge an FIR and book the accused. The Yogi government had constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe charges against him. 
The SIT had submitted a chargesheet in the Special POCSO Court basis which the Court on Saturday framed charges against Gayatri and six others.

A POCSO Court judge was sacked by the Chief Justice Allahabad High Court for giving bail to Gayatri on frivolous grounds. A report from Allahabad High Court to the Law Ministry and Supreme Court had suspected that Gayatri had given Rs 10 crore bribe to the judge and two senior counsels who acted as conduit on behalf of the jailed Cabinet minister.
