Gandhi family has done a lot for nation, says Hanumantha Rao

Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao on Sunday lashed out at Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani for her remarks on 'Gandhi family', saying that the family has done a lot for nation.

"Every time she goes to Amethi, she wants to criticise Rahul Gandhi and Indira Gandhi family. I cannot understand why she is criticising....If it is Amit Shah or Narendra Modi, then we can reply... Earlier Sushma Swaraj used to criticise Gandhi family, now Amit Shah has given this work to Smriti Irani, it is not a new thing, we are ready to counter," Rao said.

"This family has done a lot for this country, Indira Gandhi sacrificed her life for country, even Rajiv ji," he added. 

Irani had earlier in the day lashed out at the Gandhi family for not fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Amethi. "The people were expecting railway line to Amethi, three generations of Gandhi family couldn't fulfil it," said Irani while addressing a rally in Amethi.
