Film and Television Institute of India students manhandled by the police force and detained for protesting against Gajendra Chauhan and Assembly council meeting to be held on January 7th. Although there were peaceful protests going through, the police officials took around 40 students detained and taken to Deccan Gymkhana Police station.

"The students were asked to protest at one side of the road but hey blocked the road. We asked them to sit inside the police van, it is when they resisted that the police had to use force" said DCP Tushar Joshi. The students were forcefully taken inside the van and manhandled by the police force.

The protesting began after the students started sloganeering when the staff association called in for Dhol Tasha bands to welcome the new chairperson, Gajendra Chauhan. "While our students were manhandled and hit in their own institutions, the staff association was letting the dhol Tasha play for the chairperson. We were peaceful but we had to go through force and terror, this will not be tolerated. If the council wanted to get friendly with us, this behaviour is not working" said Rakesh Shukla, student conveyor of FTII.

The banners put up by the students are being removed by the staff before arrival of Chauhan. Students sit in the institution premises with black bands to continue protest while their fellow students are detained. The students were given a notice last night by the police that if they agitate they would have to face actions.
