FTII row: Students meet I&B team, express hope

It will submit its report to the Information and Broadcasting ministry team on the FTII issue soon.

I&B team met FTII students on 71st day of strike

Student representatives of the Film and Television Institute (FTII), Pune have said that they are hopeful that the impasse at the institute can come to an end after a three-member team by the Registrar of Newspapers in India (RNI) SM Khan met with them on Friday.  SM Khan has said that it will submit its report to the Information and Broadcasting ministry team on the FTII issue by Monday.

"We had a very good discussions in cordial atmosphere here and everything was discussed in details. We will submit our report to the ministry soon," he said.

Vikas Urs, from the FTII students' association said, "It is a gesture we were hoping for from last 71 days. It is good to see that a three-member committee (I&B) spoke with students and the faculty at length. Meeting with the students was in essence to try to understand students' perspective and concerns and we are hopeful (of resolving the issue)."

The students' have been striking over demand for the removal of TV actor and BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as the chairman. The strike has entered its 71st day today. 

Academic activity at the FTII is at a standstill with students being adamant over Chauhans removal.
