'Frustrated' Vadra must realize India is no more a 'banana republic': Sambit Patra

Launching a scathing attack on Robert Vadra for angrily pushing away the mic of a reporter when asked about his land deals in Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said it reflected sheer frustration on the part of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Vadra must realize that India is no more a 'banana republic' which was ruled by the first family of Congress.

"It was a sheer frustration of Mr. Vadra which became manifest as an inappropriate behaviour on a journalist. Mr. Vadra was the one who had called India as a 'banana republic' and we Indians as 'mango people'. But it is time that we make Mr. Vadra realize that India is no more a banana republic which was ruled by the first family of Congress," Patra told ANI here.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain echoing similar sentiments said the Congress must apologise for Vadra's behavior.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia said that Vadra's behavior was uncalled for.

"The question asked by the reporter is what we have been asking for years, Vadra's behavior was uncalled for," he said.

On Saturday, Vadra lost his temper and pushed an ANI reporter's mic away, when asked a question about his land deals in Haryana. 

"Are you serious? Are you serious? Are you nuts? What is wrong with you," Vadra kept asking repeatedly.

Vadra and his security guards also threatened the reporter and asked him to turn off his camera at a private event held at the Ashoka Hotel.
