In an illuminative talk to the US Congress, PM Narendra Modi was in full form as he cracked a couple of jokes, took a swipe at Pakistan for fostering terrorism and reflected upon a bright new future with the USA. Here are some of the highlights of his speech:

Referring to his visit to the Arlington National Cemetery, Modi lauded the ‘sacrifices of the men and women’ of the US Armed forces ‘in the service of mankind’ and thanked them for fighting ‘to

Gandhi and non-violence

Speaking about the Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr he said: “Gandhi's non-violence inspired the heroism of Martin Luther King. The genius of Dr B. R. Ambedkar was nurtured in the years he spent at the Columbia University a century ago.”

 A Congress joke in US Congress

The PM couldn’t resist making a Congress joke in the house when he said: “I am informed that the working of the US Congress is harmonoius. I am also told you are well-known for your bipartisanship. Well, you are not alone. Time and again, I have also witnessed a similar spirit in the Indian Parliament, especially our Upper House. So, as you can see, we have many shared practices.”

SIRI, yoga and intellectual property rights

Given the all-pervading nature of smartphones, Modi combined it with a yoga and intellectual property rights. He said: “SIRI tells us that India's ancient heritage of Yoga has over 30 million practitioners in the U.S. And, we have not yet claimed intellectual property right on Yoga.”

No soft talk for terrorism

Speaking about terrorism, he said: “I commend the members of U.S. Congress for sending a clear message to those who preach and practice terrorism for political gains. Terrorism remains the biggest threat. From West of India's border to Africa, it may go by different names -  LeT, Taliban or ISIS. But its(terrorism) philosophy is common, of hate, murder and violence Those who believe in humanity must come together as one & speak against this menace in one voice. On the future of US-India relationship

Speaking about the US-India relationship: “Our relationship is primed us for a momentous future.   The constraints of the past are behind us and foundations of the future are firmly in place. The Orchestra have sufficiently tuned their instruments the baton has given the signal. And there is a new symphony in play."
