Hoping to make some extra bucks, three youngsters made duplicate passes of pop singer Honey Singh’s live performance at H L College. However, they ran out of luck as one of them was caught by an alert customer.

Like hundreds of other fans of Honey Singh, 24-year-old Varesh Shetty, a resident of Shahibaug, wanted passes for the pop singer’s performance in the city on Tuesday night. His friends too wanted to attend the concert. To arrange for the passes for all of them, Shetty, who works as marketing executive, contacted one Zishan Mansoori, whom he knew since college days. According to Shetty, Mansoori, a former student of HL College, claimed to be a member of the alumni committee of the college.

On October 25, Mansoori, a resident of Dabgarwad in Dariyapur, agreed to give him 40 passes of Platinum category. Mansoori allegedly claimed that each pass was for Rs1,000, but offered to sell them at 50% discount. On Monday evening, he delivered 20 passes to Shetty and took Rs10,000. He also promised to deliver the remaining 20 on Tuesday.

Shetty then went to H L College to buy a VVIP pass. When he compared that pass with the ones given by Mansoori, he found some difference in print and colours. To confirm his doubt, he showed them to one of the organizers. He learned that all the 20 passes were fake and did not have any serial number or bar code.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mansooricalled up Shetty and told him to collect the remaining passes. Shetty took along two of his friends and waited for Mansoori at Ashram road. The trio caught hold of a youngster sent by Mansoori to deliver the passes and took him to Navrangpura police station. The youngster, identified as Soheb Nagori, a resident of Jamalpur, was arrested for making and selling fake passes. Later, cops also arrested Zishan Mansoori and Mukit Mansoori, a resident of Khadia.

Investigation revealed that the trio had got 200 fake passes printed at the same unit where original passes were printed. “We have also detained the owner of the printing firm for his alleged involvement in the racket. The trio was nabbed before they could sell the remaining passes” said PM Sarvaiya, senior police inspector of Navrangpura.
