In a fresh trouble for Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family, the Income Tax (I-T) department has slapped charges against the RJD chief's wife, daughter and son under Benami Transactions Act. The charges have been slapped against Lalu Prasad's wife Rabri Devi, daughter Misa Bharti and Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav. The I-T department served attachment notice under the stringent act for assets worth over Rs 9 crore against the Lalu Prasad family.

On Monday, the Income Tax Department provisionally attached a few immovable properties in connection with its probe in the Rs 1,000 crore benami land deals and tax evasion case. On May 16, the IT Department had launched searches at 22 places in and around Delhi in connection with alleged benami property deals involving the RJD chief and his children.

Benami properties are those in which the real beneficiary is not the one in whose name the property has been purchased.

The BJP had also accused Prasad, Bharti and his two sons Tejashwi and Tej Pratap, both ministers in the Bihar government, of involvement in corrupt land deals worth over Rs 1,000 crore, and asked the central government to probe one such transaction in Delhi.

The Income Tax department on Tuesday released a list of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's relatives’ Benami properties seized by it.

The Income Tax department attached a total of 12 plots of Lalu’s daughter Misa Bharti and her husband Shailesh Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Tejaswi Yadav and ex chief minister Rabri Devi, and sisters Ragini and Chanda Yadav.

Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi made fresh allegations against Lalu Prasad's family saying his wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi "owns" 18 flats here worth around Rs 20 crore, which the RJD termed as "baseless and absurd."

Sushil Modi, who has been repeatedly attacking Prasad and his family for purportedly owning benami properties, alleged that Rabri Devi had got two plots - 20.07 decimal at Ranjan Path near Saguna Mor and another 15.41 decimal in Sheikhpura area - registered in her name when she was the chief minister (1997-2005) and her husband was the railway minister (2004- 09).

He alleged that Rabri Devi got registered the two separate pieces of land from three persons who were either given jobs or contracts in the Indian Railways or were benefited in some other way when Lalu Prasad was the railway minister.

One farmhouse in Delhi and one bungalow in New Friends Colony are also attached.  The market value of the total attached property is worth Rs. 175 crore, whereas the book value of the attached property is Rs. 9.32 crore.
