Former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat's wife dies of heart attack

The wife of former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat passed away here today after a cardiac arrest.

Suraj Kanwar (86) was admitted to SMS hospital last evening following chest pain and breathing problem. She died at 6:30 AM in the morning, family sources said. She is survived by a daughter and her son in law Narpat Singh Rajvi, who is a sitting BJP MLA. Her cremation will take place later today in the same ground in Vidhyadhar nagar where the last rights of Bhairo Singh were performed in 2010, they said.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje expressed grief on her demise. Raje, in a message, said her death was a personal loss to her. "She was a kind hearted woman and dedicated for the upliftment of poor and underprivileged people. She was behind the success of her husband Bhairon Singh Shekhawat," she said.

Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot met Kanwar at the hospital last night. Health Minister Rajendra Rathore and other leaders reached her official residence in civil lines and offered her floral tributes.
