A former RSS functionary in Madhya Pradesh who made controversial remarks against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan should have been jailed, said CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat. Controversial comments often made by some BJP-RSS leaders have the patronage of the leadership of the saffron combine, she alleged.

"The entire language, it comes from top," she said, addressing a rally organised here by AIDWA and other Left- linked unions on the occasion of International Women's Day. Referring to the remarks made by now sacked RSS functionary Kundan Chandravat at Ujjain against Vijayan, the CPM leader wondered why he "is not in jail" though BJP is in power in Madhya Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi "ran a communal campaign" in the Uttar Pradesh elections, she alleged. Asked about allegations of political killings made against ruling CPI(M) in Kerala, she said the people of the state know who is doing what. The Centre is "destroying" the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), a programme that gave nutritious food to poor children, by deciding to give cash to the children's parents, she claimed.
