Former minister Kapil Sibal pens an item number for Bollywood

Sibal had made his debut as a lyricist in Bollywood with a film titled 'Bandook' in which he wrote the song 'Tu bata de'.

Former Union minister Kapil Sibal's next project as a lyricist is upcoming political Bollywood film Zainab for which he has also penned an item number. 'Mast mast hawa' is among the five songs that Sibal had penned for the film helmed by debutante Pranav Singh. The movie is based on the Muzaffarnagar riots and stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Ashutosh Rana and will mark the Bollywood debut of Turkish actress Suha Gezento.

"Producers nowadays want item numbers. So I have penned one for this film. Cinema is the most effective way of creating awareness and spreading social message. Through this film I would like to convey the message of happiness, humanity and harmony," the Congress leader said.

The music of Zainab has been composed by Lalit Pandit, who was all praise for Sibal and his writing. Sibal had made his debut as a lyricist in Bollywood with a film titled "Bandook" in which he wrote the song 'Tu bata de'.

He has also collaborated with music maestro AR Rahman for his studio album Raunak for which he wrote seven songs. The politician said he is open to writing for Bollywood films if he is approached.

Sheirgill said he was initially apprehensive about the film but eventually he was very happy to see Joe the movie shaped.

The first poster of the first was launched during the event which was compered by actor Jay Bhanushali. The evening also saw a dance performance on a qawali from the film which has been written by Sibal.
