Former DMK MLA M Subramaniam passes away

Former Erode MLA M Subramaniam of DMK has died in Erode after a brief illness.

Seventy eight-year old Subramaniam, popularly known as "Ma Su", passed away on Tuesday night, party sources said.

He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.

Subramaniam represented Erode constituency in the Assembly from 1971 to 1976. He had also been the Chairman of Erode Municipal council from 1991 to 1996.

During Emergency, he was detained under MISA and jailed for a year.
