Former Andhra Pradesh CM Kiran Kumar Reddy back in Congress

Former Andhra CM Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday rejoined the Congress, four years after he quit the party. 

The last chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Reddy had quit the party over the bifurcation and floated his own party, Jai Samaikya Andhra. 

Reddy met Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the presence of party’s in-charge for Andhra Pradesh Oommen Chandy, former union minister MM Pallam Raju and Andhra Congress president N Raghuveera Reddy. 

Speaking to reporters, Reddy said that he was happy to be back within the party’s fold. “Although I resigned as chief minister; I cannot be separated from the Congress, because my father and I have been the party’s MLAs for nearly eight terms. Whatever identity I have got today, is because of the party,” he said.

He said that the NDA has failed to implement the Reorganisation Act and the special status for the state. “Not only that, railway zones, the 11 universities that were promised to Andhra Pradesh, an AIIMS in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh each,  all of these promises have not been realised. So I strongly believe that unless the Congress comes back, the assurances that were given by the then prime minister  Manmohan Singh in Rajya Sabha, will never be implemented,” said Reddy.
